Examples of Tasks and Challenges

  • Designed fluid control and flow monitoring components such as flow sensors, pressure transducer assemblies, temperature sensors, flow meters and flow switches for high purity, corrosive chemistries.
  • Design and thermal analysis work on LED light bulb that is now commercially available.
  • Created a statistics-based manufacturing specification method that would significantly reduce product rejects.
  • Worked extensively with plastic injection molded and blow molded part vendors to implement design changes and qualify new mold designs on multi-cavity, high volume injection molded and blow-molded parts using a range of materials from polyethylene to Teflon.
  • Specified and purchased test equipment and software for motion, heat, humidity, static charge measurement, DOE and automated precision metrology system. Applied FMEA to systems and components.
  • Designed and developed high-speed bearing supported spindle assembly used in slicing chips from 300 mm silicon wafers with a duty cycle of 1 year.
  • Converted several parts from machined to molded production using materials from polyethylene to Teflon.
  • Corrected production problems resulting in failure rate reduction of over 50% to less than 1%.
  • Developed metal-to-metal assembly techniques that eliminated fatigue failures and smart projectile systems involving design analysis, aerodynamic pre-and post-test analysis.
  • Utilized “Design of Experiments” technique for several test programs.
  • Extensively modified computer code to accurately predict complex flight performance (6 DOF) of several versions of the Tomahawk Cruise Missile.
