Impact and Collision Analysis

In recent years, the explicit dynamic finite element method has been widely used in the field of collision impact and has shown advantages in dealing with large-scale contact problems. ANSYS/LS-DYNA is a general explicit nonlinear dynamic finite element program, and can solve a variety of nonlinear problems such as the nonlinear contact of high- speed collisions, explosions, and metal forming in three- dimensional nonlinear structure, the impact of load nonlinearity and material nonlinear problems.

Collisions and impacts  are a transient complex physical process, which is a Non-linear dynamics problem. The explicit dynamics finite element method in LS-DYNA is mainly used in solving the problems of collision.

The images at right are a small sampling of what is possible to simulate using this technology. a short video  I made  a short video demonstrating an everyday phenomenon is here. A slow motion version is here.

ANSYS Explicit Dynamics is well suited for solving:

In order to capture impact behavior, time steps are often 1 millionth of a second or less.
